With Technology leading the way for better services, financial services companies have seen a significant growth in their business, by harnessing the power of technology. FinTech is the buzz word of the day, where technology is used to enhance traditional financial systems. Per KPMG the global FinTech and software industry is projected to grow to US$45 billion industry from US$15 billion as of 2015.

This would only be possible if a FinTech ecosystem is developed and nurtured by the industry. This is where GITAM comes in, to contribute to the ecosystem by providing industry ready talented academic students, by offering such certification programs.

Since early 2016, GITAM FinTech Academy has successfully rolled out the FinTech Certification Program and Blockchain Certification program in partnership with Andhra Pradesh Electronic and Information Technology Agency (APEITA), UBS and Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd. These certificate programs going forward will be offered twice in a year. We are also proud to introduce from the academic year 2017-18, a Post-Graduate Diploma (FinTech) program and a Master of Business Administration (FinTech) program.

GITAM FinTech Academy is proud to partner with the following institutions, last year to build strong academia-corporate partnership.

  • An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APEITA and Broadridge Financial Solutions India Pvt Ltd, to setup a Center of Excellence (COE) in Blockchain technology. The aim of this COE is to research and train students in Blockchain technology, which uses Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), the de-facto future standard, where security and hacking is a concern.
  • An MoU with APEITA and Thomson Reuters to setup their Innovation AppStudio CoE. Through this CoE, Thomson Reuters have provided access to their global award winning Eikon market data and development tools, for research in financial data analytics.
  • An MoU with Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore for faculty and student exchange program.

FinTech certification program objectives

  • To understand financial services fundamentals relevant to the corporate environment
  • To understand the basic technological tools that are prevalent in the industry
  • To understand the application of these technologies in the financial industry

Post Graduation Diploma / MBA (FinTech)

  • Post-Graduate Diploma (FinTech) or PGD(FinTech): A one-year program consisting of three trimesters, starting June 2017.
  • Master of Business Administration(FinTech) or MBA(FinTech): A two year program consisting of six trimesters, starting June 2017

The first year of three trimesters are common for both programs. On completion of the first year, students who with to continue and obtain their MBA(FinTech)degree, can do so and will have to complete the second year, consisting of an additional three trimesters. Provision has been made to support and encourage those students who with to complete the first year PGD(FinTech) and then work for some time to gain corporate experience, before coming back to complete the second year and obtain their MBA(FinTech) degree, within a period of six years from the time they join their PGD(FinTech) program.

Eligibility
  • A bachelor degree in Engineering, Technology or Sciences (Computer Science or IT) with 60% aggregate marks, approved by GITAM.
  • Should be very comfortable in any of the programming languages, like C, C++, Java, Java script.
Duration
  • PGD(FinTech): 1-year, full time program consisting of 3-trimesters.
  • MBA(FinTech): 2-years, full time program consisting of 6-trimesters.

To provide exposure to the key concepts of Finance such as Stock Markets, Products, Services and Strategy, in addition upcoming technology will also be covered such as Big Data analytics using R-Programming and Hadoop.

GITAM FinTech Academy, GITAM has signed an MoU with APEITA to setup a Blockchain Center of Excellence (CoE) in partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Pvt. The center is located on the 5th floor of GITAM Bhavan, with an aim to promote the new blockchain technology.

Broadridge Financial Solutions is a New York based financial services company, who specializes in Consumer Finance, Healthcare, Insurance, Retail Banking, Telecom and Utilities, with branch office in Hyderabad. They provide advanced communications, technology, data and analytics solutions for the financial services industry and businesses.

Blockchain is a disruptive technology that uses cryptography in a distributed network of nodes. It is considered to be a highly secure system, when compared to data stored in centralized servers, as the data is distributed to multiple nodes and hence becomes hard to hack.

Objectives:

  1. Educating and developing students to learn the emerging technology of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)
  2. Provide a platform for students to immerse themselves in an experiential manner and apply Blockchain / DLT to solve real world problems
  3. To provide skill and competency development to students that will accelerate their industry readiness and embrace innovation

Thomson Reuters is the answer company, who provides professionals with the intelligence, technology and human expertise they need to find trusted answers.

Objectives:

  1. To provide students access and training in cutting edge market analytical tools.
  2. To develop Eikon apps that will help specific governmental departments.
  3. To explore the possibility of integrating Blockchain in market data analytics.

GITAM FinTech Academy, GITAM has signed an MoU with Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore to explore joint research and promote faculty and student exchange programs. Since its inception in 1963 Ngee Ann Poly has achieved accolades as an institution of higher learning, providing broad-based and holistic learning, by building strategic alliances and providing enriching overseas experiences to prepare its students for a global workplace.

As part of this MoU the following activities are planned:

  1. January 2018: MBA(FinTech) students (11 Nos) along with faculty to visit Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore as part of their 8-day Educational Tour to explore startups, FinTech ecosystem, Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality and 3-D Printing.
  2. March 2018: Ngee Ann Poly students (20 Nos) and thee faculty to visit GITAM , Vizag for a 3-week period as part of their “Overseas Cultural Immersion Program”

GITAM FinTech Academy is exploring partnering opportunity with of Sydney and of New South Wales, Australia for joint research to study the impact of FinTech Valley Vizag ecosystem in the community.

Student Projects

  • Financial Inclusion – The Indian government has rolled out 30crore bank account through the Jan Dhan Yojana, to ensure the unbanked are banked. These accounts are linked to Aadhaar, and eligible individuals are directly receiving their subsidies. This project aims to study the positive and negative impacts if any by the creation of these accounts, by using data analytics.
  • Robustness of State Finances – Every Indian state have their revenues and expenditures. How the states are impacted due to surplus or deficit budgets, is the aim of this project. Data analytics to identify the correlation of sector progress to the budgets received will be studied.
  • Education & Health – The Pillar Stones of India: This project aims to study the malnutrition rate and literacy rate within the Indian states. Is there a correlation between malnutrition and SGDP. How is the growing budget allotment to education and malnutrition, impacting the rates.
  • Factors Impeding GDP Rate: Sector and industry wise break-down analysis of macro-economic factors that impact Indian GDP. How can the growth be set on a sustainable growth path.
