With Technology leading the way for better services, financial services companies have seen a significant growth in their business, by harnessing the power of technology. FinTech is the buzz word of the day, where technology is used to enhance traditional financial systems. Per KPMG the global FinTech and software industry is projected to grow to US$45 billion industry from US$15 billion as of 2015.
This would only be possible if a FinTech ecosystem is developed and nurtured by the industry. This is where GITAM comes in, to contribute to the ecosystem by providing industry ready talented academic students, by offering such certification programs.
Since early 2016, GITAM FinTech Academy has successfully rolled out the FinTech Certification Program and Blockchain Certification program in partnership with Andhra Pradesh Electronic and Information Technology Agency (APEITA), UBS and Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd. These certificate programs going forward will be offered twice in a year. We are also proud to introduce from the academic year 2017-18, a Post-Graduate Diploma (FinTech) program and a Master of Business Administration (FinTech) program.

The first year of three trimesters are common for both programs. On completion of the first year, students who with to continue and obtain their MBA(FinTech)degree, can do so and will have to complete the second year, consisting of an additional three trimesters. Provision has been made to support and encourage those students who with to complete the first year PGD(FinTech) and then work for some time to gain corporate experience, before coming back to complete the second year and obtain their MBA(FinTech) degree, within a period of six years from the time they join their PGD(FinTech) program.
To provide exposure to the key concepts of Finance such as Stock Markets, Products, Services and Strategy, in addition upcoming technology will also be covered such as Big Data analytics using R-Programming and Hadoop.
To provide exposure to the upcoming Blockchain Technology or Distributed Ledger Technology, of Bitcoin, Etherum and Hyperledger platforms.
GITAM FinTech Academy, GITAM has signed an MoU with APEITA to setup a Blockchain Center of Excellence (CoE) in partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions (India) Pvt. The center is located on the 5th floor of GITAM Bhavan, with an aim to promote the new blockchain technology.
Broadridge Financial Solutions is a New York based financial services company, who specializes in Consumer Finance, Healthcare, Insurance, Retail Banking, Telecom and Utilities, with branch office in Hyderabad. They provide advanced communications, technology, data and analytics solutions for the financial services industry and businesses.
Blockchain is a disruptive technology that uses cryptography in a distributed network of nodes. It is considered to be a highly secure system, when compared to data stored in centralized servers, as the data is distributed to multiple nodes and hence becomes hard to hack.
GITAM FinTech Academy, GITAM has signed an MoU with APEITA and Thomson Reuters to setup their Innovation AppStudio CoE. Through this CoE, Thomson Reuters have provided access to their global award winning Eikon market data and development tools.
Thomson Reuters is the answer company, who provides professionals with the intelligence, technology and human expertise they need to find trusted answers.
GITAM FinTech Academy, GITAM has signed an MoU with Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore to explore joint research and promote faculty and student exchange programs. Since its inception in 1963 Ngee Ann Poly has achieved accolades as an institution of higher learning, providing broad-based and holistic learning, by building strategic alliances and providing enriching overseas experiences to prepare its students for a global workplace.
As part of this MoU the following activities are planned:
GITAM FinTech Academy is exploring partnering opportunity with of Sydney and of New South Wales, Australia for joint research to study the impact of FinTech Valley Vizag ecosystem in the community.

Honourable Chief Minister Mr. N.Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated Conduent’s business in FinTech Valley Vizag. Conduent the spin-off company from Xerox is keen to make Vizag their City of Destiny. Currently they have recruited about 200 headcount and are looking to expand rapidly.
Conduent visited GITAM to support them in their headcount expansion plans and GITAM is more happy and honoured to support a global brand. It was planned for their President Mr. Dave Amoriell to visit the city, however due to flight cancellations he could not make it. The Conduent team comprising of Mr. Adhish Mehrotra, Director Marketing & Communications, Mr. Manish Sharma, Head of Technology Service and Mr. Subodh Sharma, Head of Real Estate met with Prof. M.S.Prasada Rao, Vice Chancellor GITAM and his team.
This early visit was to assess the capability to deliver talented work force. They were very happy to learn about the different programs from which GITAM students graduate every year, from the heads of the institutions. Mr. Manish was particularly impressed with MBA(FinTech) program and mentioned that this is future and that Conduent as a technology provided is focusing on Blockchain and FinTech. Prof. M.S.Prasada Rao felicitated each of the participants and assured all support and best wishes for their business.
GITAM in partnership with Andhra Pradesh Electronics & Information Technological Agency (APEITA) hosted a Mastercard seminar on “Powering Digital India: Understanding the role of Payments Technology”, on 20th March 2018 from 9:30am to 1:30pm at their KRC auditorium.
Mastercard, a global powerhouse on digital payments, is the authority to deliver a seminar on the most relevant and much needed topic, when India is taking great strides in the digital payments arena. The seminar was inaugurated and welcomed by Prof.K.Sivaramakrishna, Pro-Vice Chancellor, GITAM (deemed to be) University, who highlighted the accolades that GITAM has achieved over the years for the benefit of our guest speakers. Mr. Ravi Aurora, Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy, Mastercard, explained how the payment business works. With the increasing ubiquity of the mobile devices in our everyday lives, the payment business is undergoing massive change, so it is important to understand emerging payment technologies and role of Mastercard in enabling commerce and protecting the payment ecosystem.
Mr. Girish Khemani, Vice President, Software Engineering (Digital Payments), S. Asia, Mastercard, discussed on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, etc. and their impact on FinTech. He also highlighted how Mastercard has adopted Agile, Micro Services and latest technologies in the Digital Payments space. Mr. Abhishek Kumar, Director Regional Security, S. Asia, Mastercard, elaborated on the biggest threat to digital payments, which is cybercrime and its impact to organizations. He also highlighted the best practises adopted by the industry to increase cyber defence to help mitigate the threat. The fourth speaker was Mr. Yatin Singla, Director, Talent Acquisition, Corporate Human Resources, Mastercard, who highlighted the culture of Mastercard, where they strive to make payments safer and easier every day and have the opportunity to innovate, create and work with people from all over the world. He highlighted the importance of internships and Mastercard is willing to provide that platform for students who are interested.
The sessions were very interactive and students had lots of questions, who waited through their lunch hour, to ask them. GITAM (deemed to be) University is proud to host for the first time, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore’s 3-weeks Overseas Immersion Program (OIP). The team of 15 students accompanied by 2 faculties from the Info Comm and Accounting department of Ngee Ann, arrived late night on 4th March 2018.
Ngee Ann Poly was founded in 1963 long before they achieved independence from British rule in 1966. The institute was founded by The Ngee Ann Konsi and is now a fully fledged polytechnic, a public institution overseen by an independent Council. Since its inception the college has achieved accolades as an institution of higher learning, providing broad-based and holistic learning, by building strategic alliances and providing enriching overseas experiences to prepare its students for a global workplace.
The three weeks chock-a-block OIP itinerary, if full of activities that would provide them exposure in Indian History, Culture & Heritage. It would also provide them exposure to AP Govt’s startup initiatives, FinTech ecosystem and off course some fun and tourism. They are also invited to participate in the GUSAC event that is starting on 13th March 2018. Even though they arrived late, they were all energetic from the start of the program on 5th morning, which am sure will continue until their departure on 25th March 2018. All the 15 students are for the first time visiting India, which in itself provides tremendous cultural exposure. They have been put up within GITAM’s hostels as they would like to experience student’s life-style within hostels.
Prof. M.S.Prasada Rao, Vice Chancellor, Prof. M. Potaraju, Registrar and Mr. K.V.Gupta, FA&CAO welcomed the gathering in the morning. The Welcome Ceremony in the afternoon was addressed by Prof. K. Shivaramakrishna, Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. Sheela, Principal, GIM, Dr. Kishan Kaza, Director, Foreign Student Affairs and Mr. Jignesh Talasila, Alumni GITAM, addressed the gathering and informed on the benefits of such international cultural exchange programs and advised the students to make the best use of such opportunity. Ms. Linda and Mr. Anand from Ngee Ann, stressed on the importance of Immersion programs in Singapore’s Educational curriculum and is looking forward for many such future exchange programs, that is mutually beneficial. Mr. Leben Johnson, Coordinator FinTech Academy, went over the detailed itinerary and assured the students that they will leave no stone unturned to ensure the students have a memorable learning experience. The MBA(FinTech) students who visited Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore in January were very quick at making friends and ensuring our guests are comfortable.
Such exchange programs are the need of the day in Indian education system and we look forward to more such partnership trips with other institutions in addition to Ngee Ann.
March 2017 Blockchain Online Hackathon. A 2-day event jointly organized with APEITA, where we hosted more than 350 students to educate them on Blockchain Technology.
April 2017 Crypto Currency Workshop was organized, which was addressed by Dr. Bimal Roy, Head R.C.Bose Center of Cryptology and Dr. Satya Lokam, Sr. Researcher, Microsoft.
May 2017: FinTech Valley Vizag, Academic Startup- Summer workshop. A 4-week internship-workshop jointly organized with APEITA, where we hosted the event for 80 students from across AP that was organized to groom their ideas.
31 Aug 2017 MoU signed with Thomson Reuters and APEITA, exchanged in the presence of Honorable Chief Minister Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu and other dignitaries.
8 Sept 2017 Blockchain Business Conference - Student Workshop: Organized a 1-day workshop on the eve of the Blockchain Business Conference, which was addressed by global blockchain technology experts.
9, 10 Sept 2017 Blockchain India Forum, was officially launched at the Blockchain Business Conference. Leben Johnson is the Coordinator of the Blockchain India Forum.
The first batch students of the unique MBA(FinTech) program, spent a week visiting multi-national corporations in Singapore. The trip started on 31st Dec 2017 at 10:00pm and they welcomed the new year in the Silk Air flight from Vizag to Singapore. The flight hostesses were very accommodative as students welcomed 2018 onboard.
During this trip, they visited the following companies who have implemented cutting edge FinTech applications. All our hosts were gracious enough to spend time and explain students on the various technologies ranging from Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning (AI ML), Virtual Reality Augmented Reality (VR/AR), Cyber Security, Blockchain Technology, Supply Chain and Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS).
They also had the opportunity to participate in the Open House of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and had hands on experience in their Makers’ Academy by making leather keychains as souvenirs for them to keep, in addition to 3D printing. The Open House was an eye opener as they had an opportunity to see what the Engineering and IT departments of Ngee Ann Polytechnic had to offer.

A team from Australia headed by Associate Professor Barney Tan, Business Information Systems, University of Sydney and Dr. Felix Tan, School of Information Systems, University of New South Wales, along with their PhD scholars are spending a week in Vizag and are developing this research report in partnership with Leben Johnson, GITAM FinTech Academy
